Nyemo
Nyemo was established in Cambodia in the late 1990's as a drop-in center and counseling house to assist abandoned women and their children, in particular those affected by AIDS. The aim of the project is to help vulnerable women to analyse their situation and strengthen their capacity to improve their quality of life and the lives of their children.
Nyemo networks extensively with government departments, other NGOs, donor organizations, volunteer groups and the private sector to mobilize key resources in the community and encourage more integrated service provision to assist their clients.
An extensive range of services and activities are offered by the organization. These include:
- a community shelter
- education programs
- vocational training and market analysis
- job placement and follow-up
- re-integration analysis of clients
Nyemo is financed through both donations and income generating activities such as embroidery and patchwork. By providing their clients with vocational training and active job placement services the organization is self sustaining and has successfully reintegrated approximately 1300 women and 850 children.
If you are in Phnom Penh you are welcome to visit the Nyemo showroom and cafe for lunch, located not far from the Independence Monument.
Cambodia House sells a range of gorgeous toys, decorations and cushions produced by the women and children involved in these activities.
